The membership candidate procedure is designed to explain the steps necessary to process an application for membership in the Club. Our goal is to maintain the high quality of membership currently enjoyed at Meridian Hills Country Club. Any person, without regard to race, sex, creed, color or national origin, not less than twenty-one (21) years of age may be a candidate for membership in Meridian Hills Country Club.
I. MEMBERSHIP CANDIDATE PROCEDURE
1. The candidate must complete and return the application to the Club, along with a $100.00 application deposit which will be applied to fees due upon approval of the application. The deposit is refunded if the application is declined.
2. The Club requires each candidate to be sponsored by a current Meridian Hills Country Club member by which the membership is held in their name. Four (4) sponsors are required if the candidate has lived within 100 miles of the Club for more than six (6) months, immediately preceding completion of the application. Six (6) sponsors are required if the candidate has lived in the area less than six months prior to the completion of the application. Each sponsor must write a personal letter of recommendation describing his/her relationship with the candidate and why the candidate should be considered for membership. Letters of recommendation must be signed by the primary member, not their spouse. Sponsors may write the letter of recommendation to the Membership Committee and mail, e-mail, or fax it to the Club.
3. The application is not considered complete until the application and all sponsors’ letters are received by the Membership Committee. After the application is received a routine credit check is performed.
4. Membership fees will be based on the fees in effect at the time the completed application is received.
5. The Membership Committee will vote on posting the candidate to inform Club membership of the application. If posting is approved, the name of the candidate, his/her company affiliation and his/her sponsors are distributed to the membership. The members have approximately fifteen days from the date of the posting to respond to the Membership Committee regarding their approval or disapproval of a candidate.
6. If the candidate is endorsed by the membership during the posting period, then the candidate will be accepted as a member and will be notified by the Chairman of the Membership Committee. If the application is accepted, then the new member will receive a welcome packet with an enclosed membership card and congratulatory letter from the Board President, Treasurer and Club Manager. If the petition is rejected, then the Chairman of the Membership Committee will notify the lead sponsor who then must notify the candidate.
7. Once accepted for membership, a Club Orientation should be scheduled with the Club Manager and if the candidate is a Golf or Tennis member, then he/she will also schedule an orientation with the Golf Professional and/or the Tennis Professional.
8. Following ninety days of membership, the new member will be contacted by a member of the Membership Committee who will ensure they are being acclimated into the club.
II. LEAD SPONSOR RESPONSIBILITIES The lead sponsor, who recommends the candidate for membership, should:
1. Assist the candidate in obtaining the required amount of sponsorships.
2. If an issue arises with the candidates’ application, then the lead sponsor will act as a liaison between the Membership Committee and the candidate. |
